Burn your candles a maximum of 3 to 4 hours for best performance. Please note that wicks do NOT burn down with the candle - they must be trimmed. The wicks are the single most important aspect to any candle and they MUST be maintained and trimmed when necessary because all parts of the candle get absorbed and released through the wick!
Our candles are not "soot-free" - they are "low-soot" or if you prefer, "90% soot-free". The wax we use is a proprietary blend of all-natural renewable materials, but not the fragrance oils. Since there is approximately 10% fragrance oil in our candles (which may produce a very small amount of soot), they cannot be classified as 100% soot-free - no candle can unless there is no fragrance oil in it (Unscented) or if it uses all-natural fragrance oils (which don't smell good). The "soot" that most people are concerned about is the "soot" that comes from using paraffin in candles (because of oily residue). All items that are burned (including alternative candles) must give off some percentages of soot. The small percentage of soot that might be seen on an alternative candle would be carbon from the wicks or because the flame has gotten too high and the wick is in need of trimming. Some fragrances also give off small amounts of soot.
We use 2 wicks so the candles burn evenly and release the maximum amount of fragrance from the first time you light the candle right down to the end.
The wicks are lead free and also core free (no zinc) and are made from 100% cotton. Although our wicks are considered self trimming we still recommend that you trim the wicks to between 1/8 and 1/4 inch at all times. (Burn instructions recommend that you NEVER burn a candle continuously for more than 3 hours!)
